The years of Early Childhood are the time to prepare the soil” – Rachel Carson

There are five areas of learning in Early Years which we cover in Reception at Gorton Primary School. These are Physical, Communication & Language, Personal, Social & Emotional, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World & Expressive Arts and Design.

Please bring your reading book to School on Wednesday so we can change & send home new ones on Friday.

Our Environment

We are so lucky to be able to share both Reception classes where the children are able to free flow across both to participate in a range of learning opportunities. We also have a large outdoor classroom in which we can share with the Nursery class. Some of the areas your child can enjoy are the role play area which we enhance with our theme, reading area, creative area, small world and construction.

Festivals and Celebrations

We celebrate festivals and celebrations from all cultures and faiths. Here is a few photographs when we celebrated Christmas, Eid and Chinese New Year.

Class Trips

In November 2021, we visited the International Film Festival in Stretford where we watched a film which linked to our topic.

We also enjoy exploring our local environment. Here are some photographs from our recent nature walk to Nutford Vale.

We enjoy weekly music lessons.

Healthy Habits

We learnt about the importance of washing our hands and used glitter to represent how quickly germs can spread if we do not wash our hands properly.

Queen’s Jubilee

On Thursday 26th June we celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in School. We enjoyed a special jubilee lunch and joined in with lots of party games with the whole school. We liked wearing our blue, white and red clothes for the day too.

We planted some sunflower seeds for our Outdoor Classroom. We discussed what a seed needs for it to grow. We know a seed needs soil, water and sunlight to grow. We are excited to see how high our sunflowers grow so we can measure them. We also looked at different objects and if they could float and sink in water. We are also involved in creating our own playdough. We mix plain flour, vegetable oil, salt food colouring and warm water in a bowl to make this. We explored snow and ice and experimented with what would happen if we added it to warm water.

Special Visitor

We had “The Bug Lady” visit us with a range of insects. We were able to hold or touch lots of creepy crawlies. We were so brave!

Art Week

We have been learning about and creating art work from our host country, India.
